Who are the Gullah people?

Gullah s carolina 1790 detail - Public domain monumental decor painting

The Gullah Geechee people are of West African descent. Many were enslaved on rice, cotton and indigo plantations along the coast. These regions included the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. Being in isolated regions perserved a distinct culture rich in arts, music, food, customs, and language.

Gullah Business of Charleston was founded in late August 2023 with a passionate mission to spotlight and support black-owned businesses. The driving force behind this initiative is President Nicole Pringle, who began laying the groundwork in October 2023. Recognizing the potential and importance of this venture, her cousin, Tiffany Savage, joined the team as Vice President, bringing her own dedication and expertise to the project.

Together, Nicole and Tiffany have committed to making Gullah Business of Charleston a beacon for black entrepreneurship, fostering a community where these businesses can thrive and receive the recognition they deserve. Their unwavering commitment to this cause is evident in every aspect of their work, as they strive to create a lasting impact on the local economy and beyond.
